Teaching in Bangkok

I know most of you thought I came to Bangkok to fuck around and blunder in and out of sacred spaces like the Ugly Welshman abroard, but here I am pontificating about truth justice and who knows where the chips may fall to young and impressionaable Thais

Jerro and his Thai Friends

Jerro, who engenders squeals of delight from most Thai females he runs into, spent part of yesterday hrelping out in the office, going to lectures and eating Thai food with his Thai friends. I am not sure if I approve of his flirting, but hey what the hell it is a free country and I do not have the right to tell him who he can hang with

A mango tree

I know this is a lame entry, but I love mangoes and I always wanted to see a mango tree. Unfortunately, I have not found a decent mango in the city, which sucks. I feel kind of like Chef in Apocalypse Now, blundering around Bangkok, having gotten off the ship busting my ass looking for freaking mangoes. But I have found a Mango tree which is going to have to stand in as a substitute. Still, one day before I leave I will find a decent ripe one. There are lots of small green mangoes though which the Thais seem to use in their cooking but I have not had the balls to try one.

I did however, have green curry last night, which gave me the worst stomach ache I have had since I have been here. It was delicious and not too spicy, but god, it ripped through me like a bull dozer.

Chinatown

At Jerro's insistence, he and I headed off to Chinatown on Sunday. I have never been anywhere so crowded, tens of thousands of people funneling through these extremely narrow streets that were home to more kitsch crap than I have ever seen before. Once one got away from the main drag there were these tiny winding streets dripping with moisture which were almost deserted. Jerro was hiding the whole time lathough he insisted I say he has been to China.

Beads in Bangkok

I have been asked to look for beads while I am here, not knowing a bead from a whole in the ground, so I decided to post pictures of beads I found in the most crowded public space I have ever ventured to tread. If any of my readers want any of these, please email me at james_lewes@yahoo.com

A garden of graffitti

Aside from a Temple whose name I do not know, this has to be the coolest space I have found in Bangkok.
